Cot v Cotbed

Postby babyL » Sat Jan 14, 2012 9:54 pm

Girls I'm wanting buy my cot soon but really don't know what to go for! Is a cotbed a waste of money, how long do they last and would it be cheaper to buy just a cot and then when child is ready buy them a bed? What have you bought yourselves?

I bought a cot. The way I see it, as you said, its more expensive to buy a cot bed, you could just buy the cot then have the excitement of buying the kids first little bed :) plus (and this is just a personal opinion) I think the cotbeds look strange when they are changed into beds.

I was looking at the cots and some lovely ones for half the price of cot beds, and some of the cot beds are alot bigger than actual cots! But still don't know what to go with!

i brought a cot bed, we brought a bedroom set and it came with a cot bed so this was the reason why we got it. but i think i would have gone for one anyway personally, like you said they are bigger and the child has more room in them.

We went with a cot. Cot beds werent a factor for us cause we both remembered the excitement of going along with my SIL when she bought "the big bed" for her son. It was brilliant and the wee guy was so excited! Plus it meant she could re-do this room to match the bed and it wasnt a baby room any more iykwim. So that and the fact I wanted a white nursery set and the white cot beds looked weird when made into a bed. JMO tho!

That's a good idea hun! Anything you can get on sale is always a BIG plus with me ;) If you've room to be storing things then I say go for it! I'm a terrible influence - don't mind me really

I bought a cot bed as to us it was worth the money, not to have to buy a bed straight away! My sisters little fella is in the bed part of his cot bed now at 2 1/2 & its so handy as it wasnt a major upheaval for him....it still felt & smelt the same when he was put into the bed, in fact for about a month he never climbed out of it...my sis thinks he still thought he was in the cot!!

On the boys I bought cots then had to buy a toddler bed when they outgrew the cot but were too small for single bed so this time we bought a cot bed it's slightly bigger than the cot and we won't need to go buy a toddler bed when she is too big for the cot.
DS1 is 9
