Lights, camera, action!!!

Postby excitedmama » Wed Dec 28, 2011 11:39 am

Here it goes...
As some of you may know I was suppose to get induced on 21st went to the coombe with on 19th for urine check up as protein level was rising..after few hours waiting I was told I need to be addmited asap so went home got my bag and came back to hospital...
I asked could I be induced today as I was going to be induced in 2 days anyway so why not now?? Doctor said ok I will be induced the same night..
I was induced 1.35 a.m.but doctor said I'm already dialated 2 cm so that will just speed things up!
About 4 a.m.I started feeling mild contractions walked around coridors for few hours until pain got worse...6a.m. I texted my fiance to get to hospital as contractions were getting closer together..he got in at 8 a.m. and I was in horrendous pain..Was told I can have pethadine but I wanted gas and air and could not have that until I got to a labour ward and they have no rooms available..doctor examined me and I was 4 cm dialiated so 10 a.m.they got me to a labour ward and I got gas and air which was great!!!
Few hours went by and pains got worse so about 12.30 I asked for epidural (I wasn't planing but pain was too much for me...) after that I felt great got a little sleep and 5.30 p.m. I was dialiated 10 cm and doc said we'll start pushing 7.30 p.m.as its better to wait for first time mums! I didnt feel urge to push as I was on epidural!
7.30p.m. came and went..about 8 p.m. doc said that thy are having emergency and new staff should be here at 8.15 so 8.30 I can start pushing.
8.30 p.m. I started pushing when I was told to do so! Midwife said I was pushing really well but baby wasnt coming out...
9.20p.m. doctor was called and did kiwi 3 times wasn't working..then came forceps...wasn't working...
9.40 p.m. I was told I need a section singned papers and was wheeled to the theater..was in comlete shock and worried that something is going terribly wrong...
There were about 8 people in the room and they treid to see how numb I was but by then epidural started wearing of and I felt cold spray on one side there was no time for top up as I heard a doc said we only have 5 min to get that baby out! I turned to her and said dont worry just get that baby out II'll be ok with the pain... she said it would be way to traumatic for me so they did spinal drugs and baby boy was born 10.10 p.m. 9 pounds and 15 oz!!!
And he was perfect!!!!!!!!!!!! (inlove) he was stressed as he went trough a lot but I was just sooooo happy to see him!!!! :cloud9 :cloud9 :cloud9

you'r both so nice thanks for asking girls! I did not care about myself at that stage I was just hoping that the baby is fine!!! I called him Damien John as Damien is my fiancees name and also his dads so its a tradition.
Baby is settling at home grand cries a bit more then I expected (everyone was saying what a happy baby he was when I was hooked on the monitors he's heart rate was always perfect) but I blame the stress that he went trough he got an xray as I was worried because he's head was a bit damaged with the suction and forceps but he's perfectly fine and really really cute!!!!!! I just want him to be a happy baby!!!
And ask for me I went trough everything with his birt so nothing will be scary next time :)
My section scar is small and bruised around but heeling nicely... but I keep thinking what if I wasnt left for 3 hours after I was dialiated 10 cm maybe I would have been able to have him myself??!!

Ah hun, really sounds like they put you through the ringer in there, very strange that they left you for so long when you were 10cm & ready to get baby out! But at least all is ok with you both now, glad to hear you guys are doing well & Im sure the crying will settle down for you soon xxx

I was shocked when you said that you were left for hours after you reached 10cm! I taught when baby got there it was get them out then!! Some hospitals are lazy I reckon when it comes to labour and looking after mammys! My sil was in labour 3 days, baby wasnt coming down at all and they said they didn't wana do a section on her as it was her first so when she Finally went to push her into the world they found cord was wrapped around her neck and they were lucky to have her!

Wow hun, thank God everything ended up ok! You must've gotten some fright!! That's crazy that they left you so long before letting you push! I know in my hospital they've said that they generally leave it an hour between the time you're fully dialated to when you start pushing (supposedly to give the mum a chance to rest before the pushing part) Mental that they left you go so long though! Thank God your son is ok hun, I'm sure the crying will settle soon. I agree with you that it may well have been the traumatic way he was born but at least he's here and you're both ok! Enjoy this special time with your son pet xxx
