Soexcited is Sohappy :)

Postby soexcited » Wed Dec 21, 2011 9:16 am

Ok girls here goes....

So I was booked in to be induced on Tuesday last but on Monday evening I started feeling some twinges.... Timed them at 20 mins apart 35 sec each.. After and hour I sent hubbie to bed to get some rest and ran the bath for myself. Had a long long bath, listened to some music etc. Got into bed to try get some rest around 3am then during another contraction my waters went, couldnt believe it! Rang hospital then off we went. Attached my tens before I went and did get some relief from it. So still very calm and happy about going into labour myself we arrived at the hospital at 4.30am, it was really quiet. For some/no reason my tens just stopped working after an hour, I was disgusted! While in the assessment ward over the next few hours I finally dilated to 3 cm and was moved to pre-labour. The next few cm were very difficult, I had decided to try to not get the epidural so I was using gas+air from this point. I had a shower then this was good, the showers were quite strong and I held it on my back. After a few hours I reached 6cm, the pain got quite bad from here and a few hours later I asked to be checked again, I was still at 6cm!! 16 hours in and still at 6cm!!!! Pethadine was no longer an option due to the babies heart rate, I had to get the epidural I couldnt take anymore. During all this time I was walking around, I used the birthing ball, I tried everything. Of all the things I brought/tried myself I gained the most relief from a wet face cloth with tea-tree on it, I inhaled the smell during contractions plus the wet face cloth was nice for my head and neck... I ended up biting the face cloth during contractions (before epidural).

Anyway, epidural arrived and the next four hours passed so quickly, I even had a nap. Hubbie went off to get some food for himself and when he came back I was 10cm :) Went into the delivery room with one mid-wife and 30mins later baba was out. I had an episiotomy which I did not feel at all. I have to say the delivery was not the hard part, ok so i did end up getting the epidural but the contractions are not nice! At least with the delivery your getting somewhere. The nurses were just brilliant, I dont know how they do it. They are encouraging and reassuring.

I have found the last week quite hard, but hard in a good way. I cant stop looking at our baba, I just love him so much :baba

Not stupid at all.. its a method of pain relief, its like four sticky pads that go on your back and give little electric pulses. Its supposed to build up your pain response.
