I agree. I had all that aswell MammyT, the way they carry on you'd think you just told them you were planning on giving the baby a tattoo or something! Some mw's are great about it and others are pure dragons, you really have to stick up for yourself! I was practically bullied last time because I wanted to bottle feed AND I didn't want Antenatal classes either. This mw made it out like I was gonna be the worst mum in the world.... you really gotta stick to your guns girls, whatever you decide to do!!!

A mixture of reasons really hun, and a long story. Basically it was because I can't drive and the nearest classes to me were a 30min drive away. Also because I was quite young (19) I was being made to feel like a child and being told what I should and shouldn't be doing quite a lot. I already knew a lot about looking after babies and other stuff because some of my friends had already been through it, and my mum has an alcohol problem so I practically raised my lil bro and sis. It was partly me being stubborn at the time I think, but I honestly didn't get along with the mw who was running the course, she had no interest in the fact that I was VERY grown up for my age, so I wanted no part in it ya know?
The only thing stopping me this time is the travelling thing, I just have no way in and out, otherwise I'd do the classes and find them quite interesting.

That's the thing, everybody is in a different situation and what is best for one person may not be the right thing for somebody else.

I agree its best to get both sides before you make a decision, i've always been of the belief that you should do whats best for yourself in any situation. I think when I have a baby i'll be bottle feeding them all of my sis and bro's were bottle feed and it did us no harm. Also I'd be afraid like some of the girls here that i wouldn't be giving the baby enough to drink.... My friend had her baby 3 weeks ago and he was a big baby she tried breast feeding him for a week and then had to give up as he clearly wasn't getting enough food and was waking every couple of hours during the night she had a terrible time for the first week the poor girl...she put him on the bottles and he is thriving now. Every baby is different so you have to do what works for you and them :baba

i was breast feed for the frist few weeks, and then moved onto bottle, my sis was breast feed for 11 mths and never took a bottle. and we turned the same!! my sis bf her oldest for 4 mths, her second for for about three weeks (but he had bottles and boob) and her fourth only for a few days (and it was the mw who told her to switch to bottle then cas my niece wasnt putting on enough weight and they wanted to see what she was drinking) my sil only feed hers on bottles and again there is no difference between any of my nieces/nephews. it really is a personal choice.

im hoping to do both like my sis done with her second. i couldnt see myself bf for more than a few weeks anyway so the baby will have to be used to a bottle too. but if bf doesnt work for me it doesnt work for me, i wont feel like a failour cas oh my god i didnt bf my child. and plus i know bf is meant to bring a bond between mother and baby but the daddies need to bond too and its not like they can feed them!! i know for me anyway hubby is looking forward to giving his frist bottle (ever!!) and i already have been told his giving the frist bottle to bump, and to be honest i wouldnt want to take that away from him.

i know the mw can push bf and yes it is good, but i think its only good if it works for the mom too. both mom and baby have to be happy and relaxed when doing so and if they arent it doesnt work.

im gonna bottle feed, for the simple fact i used to mind my lil cousin who was breast fed, my aunt went off to do her bits n bobs but the baby would be hungry an hr after she left so there was nothing i could give her that she would/could take while waiting for my aunt to get home, poor baby would be cryin her heart out n look at me like, well whip it out! id like to try bf but will do the bottles as its handy for the family to bond with baby in the early days

hannahthompson wrote:Proponents of breastfeeding cite a number of reasons why they feel it is the best choice. Not only is breast milk nutritionally superior to baby formula, breastfed babies typically experience less gassiness and spitting up than bottle fed babies. Additionally, mother's milk provides babies with valuable antibodies not present in commercially prepared formula. Bottle feeding can be easier than breastfeeding in several ways. Bottle fed babies can be fed by the father or other caregiver without the need to pump milk, which, in the middle of the night, can be a big advantage! Also, formula digests more slowly than breast milk, so bottle fed babies typically remain satisfied for longer stretches of time than breastfed babies. This can be particularly beneficial in families with several children to care for, especially those with multiples. I want to bottle feed. But I am already running into a lot of opinions from people who do not agree. I just have to stick to my guns and do what I feel is right for me and my baby.

Im pretty sure I read most of this post on http://www.safekids.co.uk/breastvsbottlefeeding.html
Sorry to be the one to point that out!!!

hannahthompson wrote:Breast feeding in public would make me feel uncomfortable because I'm not a confident person. My cousin got a pump to express her milk and it was handy for her but she used formula as well. My aunt breastfeed my cousins and they were constantly stuck to her boob that out me off because you wouldn't have much freedom as when bottle feeding.

This is getting ridiculous.. Mammy T wrote this on page one... you're obviously a virus of some kind.
