That's what I heard anyway! Hence why most hospitals let you tear yourself, if you're gonna tear at all.

On the pain relief front, the hypno-birthing CD I ordered arrived today :) You're not supposed to listen to it until after 32 weeks so I have a while to go before I'll be using it but I read the little manual that comes with it and its really really good! Has about 6 whole pages devoted to the birthing partner and their role, even has an insert for the midwives and a sticker for my hospital notes so that they'll know I'm using hypnotherapy! My friends think I'm nuts to even consider this but as I said to them, anything that will give me a boost and I'll do it!! Basically the whole booklet goes on about how we have a natural "fight or flight" response and about how adrenaline is NOT your friend during labour and delivery. It saps your energy and makes you feel the contractions more than you would, cause the adrenaline is stemming from fear of the unknown so supposedly the CDs help you relax and deal with the fear before the labour. I like the thoughts behind the theory! Hope it'll work :)

I actually thought it was the other way around though.. that a controlled incision was safer and quicker to heal.

As I got closer to d -day, I was thinking of using pain relief as I got a bit more anxious.
My labour was only 1 hr 35 mins so didnt get a chance to use anything.
I tried gas and air for afterbirth but have an awful gag reflex so found it hard to take. It hurts your throat imo.

Yeah all I wanted was a drink of water, then maybe gas n air would have been easier to take but I didnt get a drink til after placenta was delivered.
