Stay at home mum

Postby sunshine » Thu Jul 28, 2011 2:53 pm

Hey girls I'm just wondering how many of you would like to be a stay at home mum if you had the choice?
I always said I wouldn't like to be a stay at home mum but as i'm getting older and know that when the time comes i'll have to have our family one after the other, I wouldn't mind staying at home for a few years until the children were around the 3 or 4 mark. One of my friends went back to work on a 2 day week when her kids got to this age so she gets to spend the other 3 days at home and she said its a happy balance cos she gets out to have her own time twice a week but also doesn't miss out on her kids growing up... I'd love to do something like this, just wondering what the rest of you girls would like to do?

Ideally if I was well off, or my hubbie had a great job I suppose Id like to give up work.. but in saying that I love my job/career... I kinda want to work up in my job. I would be happy to see my hubbie be a stay at home dad and Id be the main earner.. that way Id know the kids would have him all day anyway, the house, dinners etc would be sorted by him.. If the two of use are working full time with kids I'd say its gonna be hard.

my partner was a single stay at home dad until i came on the scene and now i will revert the role and stay at home until baby is off the breast, (that is when baby is born) and then we will take it in turns, its handy when we are our own bosses, and we both can do the same job. so ill have the best of both worlds

I would LOVE to be a stay at home Mum, I am a working-from-home hairdresser though, so I dont think Ill be able to completely give up work. Financially anyway it wouldnt be best for us... But I'll only be doing 3-4 mornings a week while Mum takes care of the baby.... <---- I cannot believe I just said that!!! THE BABY!!! :happydance

A job - I would give up. A career not so easily. But I guess the first years are the most difficult when they can't yet do stuff for themselves :P Trouble is, they get older, can do all the stuff themselves but they don't want to ! Either way if there is the will to keep working then you might just figure out how to combine the two, and still be there for your child(s).

I hope to be a stay-at-home mom- we are lucky that I can afford to not work. We both got permanency in our job in last few months so things are looking hopeful.
My partner agrees and before we found out we were pregnant, we discussed that when we had children I would stay at home. I plan on starting my degree in september 2012 with open university.
Part of the deal is that I am not just a mum though- I plan on keeping up my part time job well I am going to back in January/February. Its only 2 hours a week and college also.

On my first I stayed at home till she was 2 and then went back to work part time which I loved! On this little one I don't think we can afford for me not to go back to work so after maternity leave is up I'll go back part time again! But I'm actually heart broken that we can't afford for me to stay at home till baby is 2!

Hey we are going good, getting there, having few issues with my stomach but apart from that,I am great. Little man is fabulous, still not sleeping best at night but fingers crossed he will settle in few weeks. How's your little dude?
How's your little dude going? Looking forward to Santa?

In regards to work, I'd like to either go part tine or work from hone, it's an option for me. I would like up retain a part of the old(pre-mummy) lainey

ah no hope you feel better regards your stomach soon. glad your little man is doing a bit better anyway, hopefully he'll settle down in a week or two. my little man is doing great, getting bigger by the day! (hate it really, want him to stay small forever!! ) and YES i cant wait for santa!! im such a child, so excited!! we are going to bring him to mahon point next weekend (tried today about 2 but traffic was crazy so we just went out for dinner instead!! ) are you looking forward to it??

and i def know what you mean, there are days im like i dont know who i am, im a mom, wife, daughter, sister.....i miss just being me. not having some-one to take care of 24/7. my parents are away for a few days and im finding it so hard, being stuck in the house all day doing everything for him. normally id go up to them every few days and its great my mom doing a few feeds in the day, i miss that! hubby came home last thur and by the time he gopt home is was lashing outside but i just wrapped myself up and went out for 20 mins, i just needed out.

Hi there,

I chose to stay at home when me and my husband started a family. It was a tough decision as when there was just the two of us there were two of us earning money. Now there are four of us and there is only one earning money. I would just about been able to earn enough to pay for childcare so we thought that it was better for me to spend this time with them before they start school, time you cant get back, with the kids. I am looking to start something part-time when my second child starts soon but I have had such a great time with my kids from birth I would do it all

If we have kids I can see me having to give up my job at least for a while. At the minute I do a two hour commute each way - leave the house at 7am, and not home until nearly 8pm so can't see me being able to manage that with a little one unless I could work part time or more days from home or something. I'd prob look into setting up a little business for myself from home in a few years
