decreased movement

Postby babymakes3 » Mon Feb 06, 2012 5:22 pm

Hi ladies, rang my hospital last night as I hadn't felt baby move in almost 12 hours and as much as I was trying to dismiss it I was getting a little scared by it. I wanted to put it off as I had the ANC this morning and thought if I held on I could ask them there! I felt silly ringing over something I felt was such a small thing but the midwife on the phone immediately cut me off and said I was to come in immediately to be checked out. They left me hooked up to the CTG for almost an hour and a half as they were not happy with baby's movement either. Turns out everything is ok thankfully, baby's heart rate was kinda all over the place but it evened out before we were allowed to leave thankfully! They gave me a kick chart and told me to keep a very close eye on things from here on in. I honestly thought I was panicking over something really silly but turns out I was right to be paranoid so basically I'm just posting this to encourage other mums to be to make sure they get checked out if there is a decrease in fetal movement, especially after 37 weeks as the midwives said this can lead to complications. Some decreases are normal and to be expected but its always better to be safe than sorry. A little more movement today thank God! This LO just wanted to frighten the hell out of mommy!!

thank god everything is ok with ur babs BM3, ur so right, we need to remember who the priorities are and if we feel something is up then we should def call the midwife. i know you'd feel like a plague ringing but its so important! even though im past the 12 weeks now i still feel worried and stressed over it all. i cant wait til i can feel baby move so i have little bit of reassurance. hope ur last 3 weeks go smoothly now..are u all set?

That is great all is ok. You were right to ring. I'm sure the hospital are well used for anxious mum2bes to be ringing them. I'd much rather ring them and to be told all is ok rather than not and for something to go wrong. Definitely better safe than sorry

Thanks girls! Just thought I'd make a point of saying to other mammies and mammies to be that its not silly to question something like this especially as I've been in there rather a lot and just feel like I'm a nuisance as the last time I rang I spoke to a really angry midwife who basically told me to stop pestering them, which really played on my mind yesterday and was part of the reason I put off telling anyone - I really felt so stupid ringing over it and kinda just rang cause I eventually confided in my mother that baby hadn't moved all day and since my baby is usually SO active (to the point of actually hurting me on a normal day!) I just found it strange. The midwife I spoke to on the phone was great. She immediately put me at ease and said that it wasn't a silly question and that as a mother we know our babies movements more than anyone and we generally know instinctively if something is up! Made me feel a LOT less silly, in fact if anything I felt silly I hadn't rang earlier in the evening!! She made a great point as well in saying that baby's movements are the only thing we have to keep up reassured that everything is ok and if there's a big change in those movements its definitely important to question it!
You'll love it when you do start feeling the movements - if there is anything that makes you FEEL pregnant its those movements :) Can't believe you're almost 16 weeks already!! Your weeks are just flying in!! :)
I hope they go smoothly too hun! I'm definitely ready, bring on the labour! I'm loving being pregnant but am definitely hitting that phase where you're just impatient to meet your little bundle of joy! Trying to enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy, waddle and all

BM3 gosh you're really going through the mill.... So glad all is ok with babs, you must of gotten such a fright :hug
I sometimes think that and then tell myself its a lazy day, after a few hours then its kicking like nobodies business. But you were dead right to ring in and go in. It is amazing that type of sixth sense we get when we know something is wrong!
I like to feel for about 4-5 movements in the morn now and then in the eve time I get a few more! At night time sitting down now I get nice few, so Id die if I didnt get them like you Id be on the phone straight away. It is great to have midwives on the end of the phone, isn't it??? So glad all is ok for you. Now the weeks are coming to an end for you wow cant believe it..... :thumbsup

BM3 Im glad you & bubs are ok darling! And you are right, we are the only ones that know what our babys kicks & routine are like & we really need to make sure to let someone know if we feel its off!! My little miss is mad for kicking me, and I know Id be very worried now if she was quite all day!

Fair play to you for listening to your instincts, especially after being put off by the other midwife. And I agree with LMLB, I'd say that midwofe was just having a bad day. Glad they checked you out and everything has settled down. Hopefully your LO will spare you any scares in the next 3 weeks. Hope they fly for you chick, can't wait to find out what you're having! x

Thanks girls! Dunno what we're having LMLB! Not long to wait til we find out though :) Yeah, its been eventful alright
I was telling myself that baby was having a lazy day, especially as the books say that movement decreases in the last couple of weeks but I literally felt nothing all day so I knew that was something to be wary of! It is mad how you just KNOW something is up! Our LO is a constant wriggler, moves pretty much non stop and he/she has patterns where they're more active at certain times (like all babies I'm sure) and I just knew from first thing yesterday morning when I wasn't woken up by a kick in the ribs like I usually am that something was amiss. As today has worn on baby has moved that bit more, I got to 10 movements on the kick chart that the hospital gave me so thats made me happy! I've never had to count kicks before as baby has always been so active so it was a bit of a weird day having to actually count the kicks and write down the times I felt them at!
I'm in ribbons with BH and crampy pains all evening and I've noticed that baby has stopped moving when I get these so maybe its related, I dunno! Not long to go now anyway! Had ANC appt today and another scan. The doc showed me baby's lungs are inhaling and exhaling very well so she was happy with that and so was I! Once baby keeps up the ten movements per day minimum between now and the labour I'll be a very happy bunny!
