Hi ladies - hope everyone's tests go well! I am not sure why each test sounds a little different but essentially they're the same - FYI -- So yesterday morning I went in for my 3 hour one to Holles St - I had to fast for 12 hours beforehand, and then they did the first test. Then I had to drink two glasses of this "glucose drink" which tastes like flat Lucozade (so essentially the same thing) and they took the second test an hour later. This was followed by a 3rd test an hour after that, then a 4th and final test an hour after that. I couldn't eat/drink anything during that time either, and it gets pretty boring waiting around! Anyway I spoke to the diabetes midwife an hour ago about my results - basically all of the tests bar one, came back normal. The one that is a bit raised was the 2nd one they did, ie an hour after the two drinks. I have what's called "impaired glucose", and don't technically have gestational diabetes (you need at least two high levels for this, although they're getting even stricter with this, plus impaired glucose could lead to diabetes if not managed). I still need to attend the lifestyle education class in Holles St next Wednesday morning and keep my diet controlled, to be super safe. Nothing is harming the baby here, and all will probably be fine. Still a worry of course, but I will do everything they tell me! It has been explained that pregnancy hormones can sometimes do this - ie start to resist your body's production of insulin, in the latter stages of pregnancy (hence they wait til 28-30ish weeks before testing) and I didn't "do it" to myself. And it can be controlled, which is the main thing...as well as the diabetes team in there, there is a dietician who I will also have a one hour session with next week. After that I think I need to return every Friday morning for check ups, although not sure of that exactly. Will keep you posted! Important to add here that I am still very much in the minority - not sure of the figures in Ireland, but way more probable that you will all come out with 100% normal levels, so don't worry!
