How much Bedding will we need?

Postby TheNewMrs » Wed Feb 01, 2012 1:00 pm

Hi Mama's.
So we're 31 wks now!! Time is just flying by...

Just wondering now much bedding we will need for babs. We have a crib for our room and a moses basket for downstairs. Then we'll move babs into cot in their own room at a later stange.
Sheets,
Pillows,
Blankets

Ect, how much do we need? How often will they need changing?

This really is a whole new world eh?

Im not overly sure either but Ive got 3 sets for the moses basket & crib which means I always have one clean!!
For the cot Ive only got one set at the moment but since she wont be sleeping in there for awhile I can pick more up before I need them!

My mums tip for the crib & moses basket was to put down either a folded pillowcase or muslin cloths to catch any spit-up so you wont have to change sheets as often!

God yeah I kinda want to start buying bedding now as well. Think I might just buy 3 sheets for the moses basket that one will fit the carry cot on the buggy as well, at least then there will always be one clean. Think I will get 2 cellular blankets maybe. God I dont have a clue.
Not gonna buy any bedding for the cot bed just yet will wait till baba is going into that. You wont need any pillows though...I dont think you are supposed to use pillows with babas.

I have 4 moses basket sheets. I use muslim cloths folded in half under babys head. For a cot I have two sheets.. I use about 8 blankets at the time!! Two in moses basket one for a cot two for a buggy one for changing table downstairs one upstairs and I have few in our lounge in case baby fals asleep on a swing...the best are cellular and cotton...fluffy ones are nice for a buggy. I change sheets few times a week.

You don't need a pillow they aren't to be used for baby under 1, my boys didn't have a pillow till they were out of the cot.
3 cellular blankets
3 sheets for pram
2 for crib
4 for big cot
Muslin cloths are great.

the midwife last night at our antenatal class scared me out of using growbags. :( She said at least with cellular blankets if the baby is too hot it can kick off blankets, but baby can get too hot and not way of cooling down in the growbag. I dunno how valid it is. It just kinda scared me coz I have 2 growbags and now Im afraid to use them in case I cook my baby!!! :screwy

wouldnt you be f***ed up of people scaring you! i had been putting vicks on my chest to ease my cough, n then in the chemist last night the pharmacist nearly freaked when he heard that id been using it! its a stimulant apparently!
like were not fools are we? if ur keepin an eye on ur baby and the temp in the bedroom youre gonna know if its too warm! plus gro bags come in loads of different tog values! i wish they'd all just BE CONSISTENT!! one says blankets are the devil, the other says gro bags are evil! how are us new mammies supposed to keep calm and get on with it!!!

I think grow bags are great for when the baby is older like 6 months or so. I use swadle me blanket and cellular blanket on top I know everyone is different but I just would not feel good if the baby can kick of his blanket then he could get cold and also I think they sleep better if they are swadled as they move arms a lot so wakes themselfs up. Well my boy sleeps really well swadled :)

Hey folks!! I've only been a momma for 14 weeks now but take what people tell you with a grain of salt ! Take all the advice your given but you'll make your own decisions in the end and always remember, mom knows best! Some nights my little fella uses a gro bag and I would still put two cellular blankets over him! Other nights, he just has a fleecy sleepsuit on and one cellular blanket! My advice is to have two of each, if its cooler or warmer, then you know to either layer up or take layers off! General rule, always have an extra layer on the baby! For our moses basket, we only ever used a pillow case! Its perfect and its saving you a few euro! For his crib which he is in at night, we have two fitted sheets! And thats plenty for us!
