Please help girls

hi girls

So i told work about my pregnancy they were delighted. But one of my jobs which i have been in for 5 years is a contract based job. Because it runs while schools are opened (after school club) my contract ends in june and renews providing a get the job after an interview in sept. So i told them i would be on maternity in aug and i woulnt be back in september but would be back in march after my 6 month break thinking they would have no prob. She said that because my contact will not be renewed until sept I cannot return to work because maternity started before my contract renewel. Sounds really stupid to me. She said maybe you should apply for the job in sept NEXT year. I was like but you cant do that to me you cant not offer me my job back. Is that right? Becuase its a contract base can she do this?
Im so upset and really dont need this stress on my and my baby! So happy with my scan yesterday and now i have to worry wether or not i can provide for my baby :(

Oh God that sound terrible!!! You suppose to be enjoying your pregnancy now and not worrying about the job!!! I had some problems as my boss was closing his company and moving abroad so I was worried I wont get maternity... I rang citizens information and they explained my rights etc. so you should def do tye same!! Good lucck and hope all works out for you! :hug

I think because its a contract job, the the book everytime you "get the job" and have your contract renewed then it is in theory a new employment. So yep they are well within their rights to not offer you another interview till the following year.

Crappy-I know!
I would try to reason with them, and see if they WILL offer you your place back when your ready. But if not hun theres not much you can do. :hug

That's terrible. I am kind of in a similar situation myself workwise. Only found out last week from my boss that I will not be getting paid while on maternity leave. I am in public sector employment and was surprised that she only told me this four weeks before I am due to finish up. I am not in one of the higher paid jobs, I do reception and admin duties (or as has been said to me before, I run the place). She hasn't even said anything to me about taking my annual leave or public holidays (which I am entitled to - i have sought legal advice on this). Am really pissed off about the whole thing, it was never mentioned to me when i announced my pregnancy last year, there is nothing in my employee contract that states whether or not you are entitled to any maternity leave payment (the contracts are non-gender specific, i compared mine with a colleagues contract). The solicitor i sought legal advice from was surprised that i wasn't being paid as it would be standard in Public Sector jobs. Anyway, thank god my husband can do overtime and is in a reasonably well paid job, otherwise we wouldn't be able to pay the mortgage. We are seeking a moratorium for a few months from our bank and are hoping they allow us to do this as we are in credit with them.

Do seek legal advice or contact your local Citizens Advice, for your own peace of mind. Best of luck with everything.

Thanks girls... Well still in talks with work.. We are getting a new employer in the job in september and my present boss will no longer be around so pleae god my new one will accept me back... Good thing about is I know her personally so i hope that has an advantage. One of the commitee members is on my side and said that hopefully I can come back... So i wont get my hopes up but at least there in talks.
Ive been a great worker for them for 5 years and they always treated me like crap... So hubby says F*** em! lol... If they dont give me m job back that mihgt not be a bad thing!!! He always looks after me so i know he will keep the food coming in....

They way ive worked it is you can take maternity benifit 16 weeks b4 your due and i will still be employment so in order to claim matnerity benifit (work doesnt pay me which i knew to begin with) I will be starting maternity the week Before we close up for the summer so i will still my employed applying for it..... is that makes any sense lol
All i say is Fingers crossed it will all work out... I dont need the stress to be honest. My main concern is my little bean growing inside me! XxX
