It can be very hurtful. The same happened to my mother when she was due with me. She told my aunts sister in law who was due the same time the name Muireann then my mother had me and the aunts sis in law had her child and my mother had to change my name.

God, I don't know why people would bother to so blatantly steal someone else's baby name! Something similar happened to me last year though I wasn't preg at the time. My cousins wife was telling me her baby names and I told her my future baby names and then when her baby was born she called her son by the name I had told her was my name. Oh well, I'll take it to mean I have good taste in baby names haha! And I'm MUCH happier with the name we have picked now anyway so she can stick the other name where the sun don't shine
