Should I bother seeing my doctor?

Postby pebbles » Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:45 pm

Hey girls. Just want ur opinion here.. I'm a junior infants teacher so I'm around sickness all the time! For the last 2 weeks my kids have all been out with this really bad choking cough. I woke up during night last night with it and have been coughing since. I took work off (1st time in 5 years) cos the coughing was making my head pound n a little dizzy. Plus to add to matters I've had diarrhoea for last 3-4 days!
I dunno if I should go c the doc? In normal circumstances I probably wouldn't but being pregnant is a different story.
What do ye think?

Id ring the surgery anyway.....they should be able to advise you! Better safe then sorry when your pregnant & if they can give you advise on what to take for the cough that would be very helpful! With the diarrhoea you need to make sure to keep your fluid levels up too so you dont get dehydrated.

Hope you feel better soon xxx

Go to the doctor. Cant do any harm and it will put your mind at ease.

hey hon TMI alert... the diarrhoea is gone thank god but unfortunately the cough is not. rang my doc on fri n he just told me to up the fluids and take paracetamol. didnt get a wink of sleep last night..was up coughing n with headache and sore jaws? n sinuses too! i rang the caredoc at 6 this morn cos knew i wasnt gonna be able to handle junior infants tomorrow so needed a cert anyway. the caredoc doctor diagnosed me with bronchitis n prescribed augmentin, prednisol and benylin for dry coughs...
went to chemist and he advised against the prednisol or at least only take 1-2 days of it cos its a steroid and also said he wouldnt advise the benylin so i got the glycerine honey n lemon. so im here with a hacking cough like an oul one on 60 carrolls a day! the sneeze count is at about a million! praying i will sleep tonight n get better! now only 16 mid term reports to write tomor! ha

How you feeling tonight hunni! It's madness the way the doc will prescribe you with anything and you go chemist and they know not to give you them! They obviously know better!

nope no classroom assistant unfortunately!a very small class of 16 though so im very lucky.
we've actually got a unit for kids with Autistic Spectrum disorders attached to our school and i worked in the unit for 2 years. couple of our SNA's have actually been on Ireland am and primetime highlighting how the kids who badly need the SNA's are losing their support. its a joke really when u see it firsthand. Our SNA's live in fear of losing their jobs all the time!

Hey Pebbles, how are you feeling now? And on the other topic, fair play to your SNAs for highlighting the issue! However, in our school, it's the teachers who live in fear of losing their jobs, not the SNAs. In fact, one of our teachers has taken up a job of an SNA just for the security now he possibly faces being returned to point one of the scale for teaching. It's ridiculous. And as you said, the kids need all the supprt they can get. When are you due back in work?
