Breech position at 23 weeks

Postby babybearmum » Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:00 am

Hi all, I'm 23 weeks and had an antenatal visit this morning in Holles St and the doctor (first time seeing a doc!) told us that the baby is in currently in frank breech position - so feet instead of head down, and legs up - like a jackknife position. Silly babs! :-) 30% of pregnancies are like this apparently and by the time birth comes only 3% are, so most babies move themselves around in time (fingers crossed)! Anyone else like this and are they uncomfortable? I feel ok but I heard it can be uncomfortable later on if it continues. Doc said there is nothing to do now, and baby should right itself!

Up until the middle of November babs was tranverse but the Friday before my next scan he/she moved. I distinctly remember it cause it was a big movement. That Monday the u/s tech told me babs was head down which would explain the pressure I had started to feel over the weekend. Had another scan yesterday, babs still head down however the placenta has also moved low down. He said theres still loads of time for things to move back up. A friend of mine is due shortly before me and her baby is head up and feet down. Her cons said theres still loads of time for the LO to move. Shes not too uncomfortable, no more than a 32 week preg woman would usually be (according to her anyway!)

Baby since quickly went head down before Xmas! I couldn't feel the actual movement, might have happened overnight (baby is most active at night!) but then I felt a sort of gentle pressure on my lower abdomen, and I could feel the head down there. My GP confirmed it last week. It was probably going to happen anyway but I think some maternity Yoga positions helped, which my teacher had suggested - getting down on hands and knees and doing cat stretches, and using the yoga ball as much as poss all helps - even just sitting forward as much as possible and not slouching, and letting belly come forward/hang to allow max room in there for movement. FYI for anyone else who has a breech baby. A few girls in the class said it helped their babies go head down too.
