Hot topics Section

Postby Mommy2be » Fri Sep 17, 2010 4:04 pm

This could be for controversial topics or heated discussions/ debates on parenting styles, dare i say it thoughts on abortion, religious beliefs etc. However this probably would need to be closely monitored to eliminate bullying or abuse of users beliefs or views.

Another suggestion would be for a Grief & Loss Section. This would be for mums2be etc who had maybe suffered a MC or women who had been ttc unsuccessfully to talk to each other and comfort each other. From other forums it seems to be a place where a lot of women talk about their losses at ease as its not on a one to one basis and they can really open up.

Yeah, I agree on the losses section. I am on several (Dutch) forums about pregnancy and ttc, and those sections are very much in demand. We call them Butterflies or Angels, theres usually also a section for Miscarriages, where woman ask questions about potential miscarriage (if they are insecure or scared they are about to have one) and the sharing helps them through it.

Yeah, i've been using another parenting forum (until now!) and over there is an 'Angels' section, support for parents suffering grief and loss. It's a sad one to see on the page but that being said, it's also common and very important that other women (and men) can come somewhere and chat to others who have been through the same thing.

As for the controversial topics one, that's a great idea too. May seem like a nightmare idea to admins though! From my experience though, a 'WYOO' (what's your opinion on) section is a good idea, because everybody has their own opinions on how things should be done when it comes to parenting, and topics like breastfeeding/ the disposable 'v' cloth nappy debate etc seem to cause a bit of friction! Perhaps somewhere for the more controversial topics to stay put could make admin a little easier?

I like the idea of an angels section. Sometimes people just need to talk about their loss an suffering so it would be great to know there is other people feeling the same and they're not alone.
